If you're wondering whether to purchase the 5th edition or rent the 6th edition, go with the 5th edition. I have both and they are EXACTLY the same, only the 5th has a much better quality. It looks like they were in a hurry to release the 6th edition because the pictures look HORRIBLE. They're blurry, the arrows pointing at stuff are broken. Some font they use is super blurry, too. Take in mind the same images are on the 5th edition, only in the high resolution you would expect. The 6th edition was completely unnecessary in my opinion.

I bought this textbook for my upcoming Biochemistry class and was a little surprised by the condition. I was definitely expecting noticeable use for the price but I think there is a bit of a disconnect in what is considered "acceptable." For instance, a library would not find this condition acceptable. When I have bought books before this usually means noticeable wear, maybe some highlighting.....this book I received seems like it is held together mostly by tape. I haven't noticed any pages missing yet so hopefully it will be OK for what I need it for....My recommendation would be to splurge the $10-20 extra and get one in "good" condition if you plan on toting it around. I don't think mine would hold up very well, so I will be keeping it at home.

Let's not kid ourselves, Biochemistry is no walk in the park. It sucks. Even if you like chemistry and biology, which I do, it is still a difficult subject when you are moving through the material for the first time. The book has been really helpful in supplementing the lectures. However, I do find that at times the text is very dense, and can sometimes be misleading. It usually takes a few passes on some of the concepts before I can actually grasp what the book is saying and how it fits into the larger picture of the system being examined. It is a good book, but the organization in some areas seems strange.

I actually really enjoy reading this book while taking my biochemistry course in college. It explains difficult concepts very well and the diagrams/figures are awesome for understanding different biochemical processes such as glycolysis.

Great textbook so far for learning, it contains a large amount of information for each chapter and their sections. I bought the textbook used because I wanted to keep the textbook but if your class requires Sapling check in with the professor or Sapling if the e-book is offered with the purchase of the online homework. This is if you want to save some money, the Sapling is roughly 70 US dollars.

Good book. Helpful for any level of biochemistry class one pursues within the college environment. Has enough adequate details as well. Really enjoyed the figures which can supplement the text of the book or the figures which can stand alone to describe other relevant processes. Has an online access password as well for reviewing other relevant information. Only caveat is that the book can be very bulky.

I love this book. I have an earlier edition of this book that I got when taking undergraduate biochemistry in college. That was about a good decade ago. Technology changes so fast. Though its true molecules and their basic structures tend to stay the same, but technology in which biochemistry is being used is constantly advancing.I bought this item as an inexpensive used book on Amazon, and I am so glad I did. The simplicity of understanding remains true in this 4th edition book. It still packs it with new technology (proteomics, etc.). I bought this at the same time of buying a proteomic book, but the small discussion the Lehninger book provided on proteomics was good enough that I regret buying the other book. I'm constantly amazed by how well the author(s) of this book presents information in a logical, accurate, and non-overly complex format.

Extremely dense, extremely comprehensive.
