About the Author

Whitney Sanderson is the daughter of Horse Diaries illustrator Ruth Sanderson. Her family has owned horses since she was a child, and her bookshelves were always filled with horse stories. When she isn’t writing, she volunteers at a horse rescue and therapeutic riding center. She has an Appaloosa named Thor, who posed as the model for Golden Sun.Ruth Sanderson grew up with a love for horses. She drew them constantly, and her first oil painting, at age fourteen, was a horse portrait.Ruth has illustrated and retold many fairy tales and likes to feature horses in them whenever possible. Her book about a magical horse, The Golden Mare, the Firebird, and the Magic Ring, won the Texas Bluebonnet Award in 2003. My 5 year old reads above average and asked me to purchase these books she currently on book 9 after receiving them the beginning of December.She loves to read and she reads everything, Its problem borrowing books from the library she always wants to keep them, I find myself purchasing books every few weeks.The stories are wonderful and she enjoys all the characters, the setting of the story and the images.She just enjoy the series I purchased the frist book during the summer and she asked me to purchase the series for the holiday when shes off from schoolThank you Horse Diaries

I picked this rating because this was such a great book to read. It made you want to keep on reading it and not want to put it down. It had HAPPY parts and sad parts in this book which made this book good. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves horses, it will make you want one. I know I sure do!!

this book was good though I keep on forgeting if the main horse is a boy or girl. Also whover likes action and drama or romance, thos book is not recommended for them. The two worst things about it is it does not have a villain or very big plot that makes readers not stop and keep on reading. The second worst thing is that it is tooooo short, so if you want to read a nice long book then do not make the same mistake that I did.

Another nice horse story in the series. Golden Sun is an appaloosa raised by native americans in the 1800's west. Nice characters, interesting historical lifestyle information and seeing that world from a horse's viewpoint. My 10 year old niece loves these books but boys would enjoy these stories as well. Recommended.

My daughter loves this series of books! She is crazy about horses and particularly likes the fact that these books are told from the horse's perspective! It is sometimes very difficult getting kids to read - I have found books that utilize animals as characters are very engaging for young readers. My daughter also loves that each book has a different author because she feels it gives the reader more variety with the characters especially since each story is told by a horse. Happy reading!

Bought this for my granddaughter and she can't wait to start the series and get the next books.

[Review written by 12 year old daughter] Golden Sun is a lovable horse, and this is a lovable book. It has a good story line and understandable characters. This book takes me to a different world consisting on Apaloosas and Indians--a very good book.

She loves horses and love reading. Good combination for these books. She will be 12 in June.I hope to find more books she likes. convenient to send by mail.
